Brumation
Tortoises are preparing for brumation, the winter sleep. In fall you may see pacing, different eating habits, digging,
and a general slowing of behavior as fall proceeds. Before brumation, give your tortoise a good, long drink.
Place it in a shallow pan of luke warm water, with water only about half the height of the tortoise.
The tortoise may immerse its head for as long as 5 or 10 minutes or more—don’t be alarmed.
