April 18, Sunday, 10 am - noon
Field Trip to the Desert Tortoise Conservation Center (DTCC)

Don't miss this unique opportunity to visit the DTCC. While the facility is still not open to the public, it is now managed by the San Diego Zoo. Conservation Program Manager Dr. Paula Kahn will show us first hand how the facility has been improved in the past year. She will give us a short presentation about rules to follow on site. Then she will take us for a walking tour to highlight the work that the zoo is conducting.

Please keep in mind:

  • Some areas of the DTCC will be off limits due to strict biosecurity protocols to prevent disease transmission around the site.
  • You may take photographs. However, all photographs are considered property of the San Diego Zoo. So, you may share them with friends and family but you may not sell them, use them for profit, or post them on public internet sites.
  • Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes, appropriate clothing for the outdoors including a hat and sunglasses, and bring a bottle of water (preferably a reusable one since the DTCC implements the values of Leave No Trace).
  • Children are welcome and they may even get the chance to feed some of the hungry tortoises that recently emerged from hibernation!
  • Directions to the DTCC will be posted as the date approaches.
